2021 Tough Enough to Wear Pink Campaign Raised More than $3.8K

100% of proceeds stay local to support cancer patients right here in Brookings

Brookings, S.D. (12/15/2021) – Tough Enough was BACK in 2021! And yes, Brookings IS stronger than cancer. The Swiftel Center’s 2021 Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign raised $3,835 to donate directly to Brookings Health System Foundation to continue services that support local cancer patients right here in Brookings, SD.

“Brookings Health System Foundation is so thankful for the continued support of the Swiftel Center through the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign.” said Sara Schneider, Brookings Health System Foundation Director. “The campaign takes place during the month of October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – and brings attention to the importance of breast self-examination and having regular mammograms, all while supporting local cancer patients within our community.”

Since 2006, more than $64,715 has been raised through the Swiftel Center’s annual Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign. The Swiftel Center staff works directly with Brookings Health System Foundation to effectively distribute funds. Thanks to community support, the campaign has assisted many cancer patients in Brookings and Brookings County with 100% of proceeds staying local.

“Funds are used locally to promote local cancer screening benefits and resources that are available at Avera Medical Group Bookings and Brookings Health System.” said Tim Watson, Brookings Health System Diagnostic Imaging Director. “Our radiology department brings comprehensive clinical imaging capabilities to our community, including a mobile PET/CT unit, which comes to Brookings Health System bi-monthly helping local patients avoid travel expenses and time away from home.”

The Swiftel Center would like to thank all the Tough Enough to Wear Pink partners for their continued support of this campaign. Partners include Brookings Health System, Brookings Health System Foundation, Avera Medical Group Foundation, South Dakota State University Miller Wellness Center, Prairie Graphics, and Sutton Rodeo Inc. Extended thanks to the Avera Clinic, SDSU Miller Wellness Center, Brookings County Outdoor Adventure Center, and Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce for assisting as t-shirts sales locations throughout Brookings.

The 2021 campaign kicked off on October 1 and was active throughout the entire month, wrapping up with a final weekend at the 2021 Brookings PRCA Rodeo (November 5 and 6). Community members were able to contribute to the campaign by purchasing Tough Enough to Wear Pink t-shirts and/or making monetary donations. This year, the Swiftel Center also debuted Tough to Wear Pink koozies at the 2021 Brookings PRCA Rodeo; koozies were available for $2 with 100% of sales contributed directly to the campaign.
