2017 was a fantas-pink year!
Brookings, S.D. (2/6/2018) – Yes, Brookings IS tough enough. The 2017 Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign raised $6,158 to donate directly to Brookings Health System Foundation to continue services that support local cancer patients.
More than $54,100 has been raised to-date through the annual Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign. The Swiftel Center works with Brookings Health System Foundation to effectively distribute funds.
“The Brookings Health System Foundation greatly appreciates the continued support of the Swiftel Center and the Brookings community through the Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign,” said Sara Schneider, Brookings Health System Foundation Director. “These funds help our Breast Cancer Patient Champion Mary Oien Reed meet one-on-one with area women newly diagnosed or currently living with breast cancer, helping to bridge the gap between the medical, emotional and personal challenges of breast cancer.”
Thanks to community support, the campaign has assisted many cancer patients in Brookings County with 100% of proceeds staying local.
Funds are used to provide specialized cancer education for local cancer care teams at Brookings Health System as well as to provide financial assistance to families in need through the PINKAP program. Area cancer patients are encouraged to apply to help cover the cost of chemotherapy infusion performed at Avera Medical Group Brookings or Brookings Hospital as well as breast biopsies, ultrasounds, lymphedema therapy, mastectomies and reconstructive surgery performed at Brookings Hospital.
